Bulldogs fall in doubleheader

Well close games seem to be the thing this season. The 'Dogs hit early on, then stopped;the defense was a little off at times which is rare. And yet, the games were still close. Go figure.

Team looks to get back on track this weekend when they face Moby's on Bay to Breakers Sunday. The Bulldogs will head up to Napa to play in their first tournament the following week.

Bulldogs-11, Moby's 'C' men-5

While the Bulldogs offense wasn't firing on all cylinders as they had the previous week, the team's defense remained strong for the majority of the game as they shutdown the C'men's offensive power consistently. Mob'y scored a pair of runs to open the game but the 'Dogs scored five runs to take the lead. The Bulldogs added a pair in the second inning to put some distance between them and their opponent.

Moby's narrowed th gap to 7-5 in the third inning before a lone run in the 'Dogs half of the fourth along with three in the fifth put the game away.  With the victory, the Bulldogs remained tied atop the division. leo pitched a heck of a game in capturing his first win on the season. Joe Sr saw a lot of action at shortstop, his first appearance there this year, before he slid over to third base midway thru the contest, allowing Matt to get in on the action; coincedentally he played a part in five of the last putouts in the game.

The Bulldogs will be off for a week before returning to action in two weeks for some doubleheader action.

Bulldogs-17, Jet Setters-1

While it was a rather cool day at Kimball Field, the Bulldogs bat were hot! With the winds blowing in, the Bulldogs pounded line drives into the Jet Setter outfield time and time again. The 'dogs opened the scoring with four first innings runs, and kept on running after that.  When they tacked on seven more in the second inning, the rout was on.  Five more runs in the third inning iced the contest..

With the exception of Shawn, (who came into the game midway thru it) and Russ (who's getting up there in  years), every other Bulldog crossed home plate sometime during the game.

The victory evens the Bulldogs record at 2-2 along with handing the Jet Setters their first loss of the season.

Players - 16, Bulldogs - 13

Yet another dogfight between the Bulldogs and one of the other top teams in the C division, the Players.

Players jumped out to an early lead and the 'Dogs fought back again. It was a close one run game in the 6th when Diana, representing the tying run, was called out at first on a hit to right field. It was to no avail that the umpire after the game, admitted he missed that call (thanks!).

The Players added some runs in their half of the 7th, then the Dogs closed in again, but fell a little short.

Next time, guys!!

Highlights: Leo hit his first homer of the season. There is no truth to the rumor that he will be tested for steroids- it was just a nice line drive shot.  The first year Bulldogs are showing that they will not go down without a fight, a major plus for a first year team. Diana made nice grab of a hot shot liner at second base. Eric had some cool hits and made his first appearance in the field. 'Dogs encountered a couple injuries but with the some time off, these should heal before next game.

Bulldogs bite Cuzzins, 19-5, to capture season's first victory!!!

With lively base hits being smacked all around the Cuzzin outfield, the Bulldogs scored four times int he first inning, added seven more in the third, pulling out to an 11-zip lead.  When the Cuzzins got four of their own in the bottom of the fourth it only helped the 'Dogs recharge, as they got eight more in the fifth on route to the big victory that evened their record at 1-1.

The 'Dogs defense was tough, tossing out runners at first on some infield gems.  The outfield played superb nabbing just about everything in site.  The Cuzzins did play little ball well, smacking a couple well placed (lucky) bunts along the baselines that went for singles. But it was too no avail as this was the Bulldogs day.

Sunday March 23, 2008 Batboys-16 Bulldogs-10

The first year Bulldogs opened their inaugural season with understandably, some early game jitters. Facing one the the better teams in the division, the Bulldogs quickly fell behind the Batboys in the top of the first inning, 4-0. But they came right back in the bottom of the inning  with four runs of their own, to know the score.

The Batboys got busy again, plating five runs, as the Bulldogs defense bent a little bit. Now the B boys pulled out in front again. In the bottom of the 4th, when John P's line drive found some open space between the Batboys outfielders, the 'Dogs had caught the Batboys again. Game tied at ten apiece.

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs that would be all the scoring they would do on this otherwise sunny Sunday afternoon. The Batboys scored a single run in the fifth, a pair in the sixth before adding three in the top of the 7th to wrap things up.

It was an interesting start to what will undoubtably be an exciting season for the newly formed squad.  The Bulldogs changed, gathered their belongings and headed out for a few post-game adult beverages. After all, it was Easter!

highlights: the team showed a lot of spunk and character in erasing big deficits to climb back into the game...Leo pitched fine in his Bulldog debut, and probably deserved a better fate...the Machado duo made some superior plays; the younger making a great catch in the outfield, rolling over but holding up his glove to show the umpire he still had the ball; meanwhile Senior was like a vacuum cleaner at short..Diana was flawless at first base...

Stay tuned. One game down - many more to come.

Bulldogs vs Badboys

Hey everyone,,

Hope we all are done licking our wounds :-) It was a good first game playing together and even with 2 new coachs so it was a learning experience for us all. I know I learned a few things for sure just watching us all. I do have a comment to make and if anyone disagrees please say something. I think we all need to get to the game 45 minutes prior,, reason ... 10-15 minutes to suit up,,, hug and say hi ( were so cute) . When we hit 30 minutes prior to the game we start to stretch together as a team,, Joe D has volunteered to run the stretches part... then we all throw together to warm up. It will get us thinking together , working together and just in a mind set to play some hard ball together. I think if we continue to show up at different times stretch seperately warm up our arms seperately we basically start the game as individuals. The team warming together, stetching together will have us starting the game together!! This I think is a good approach to get our mind on the game ...

We have tons of talent on this team and it is going to show real soon. We did very well against the Badboys ( we could have won) but that is the past,, this team usually romps on opther teams and we all know they had to work hard for this win. I am sure they will not look forward to playing us in the playoffs or in tournaments. We will do great this season and I must say I was proud of all of you!! We lost and still had fun together and thats is what this is all about. We all do like to win but how you lose shows what kind of team you really are and we did good.

Well folks nice game lets learn from our mistakes and bring it on next game. Its going to be a great season and I look forward to it. See ya next Saturday.....
have a good week Bulldogs
